Who We Are…
We are a congregationally-led church and follow the traditional Discipline of the Methodist Church. Methodism was founded by the Rev. John Wesley in 17th century England. According to Wesley, the life of a Methodist who follows Christ can best be summed up when we…
“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can.
In all the ways you can. In all the places you can.
At all the times you can. To all the people you can.
As long as ever you can.”
We are Wesleyan in our theology, meaning our understanding of and belief in God are grounded in scripture and the teachings of Jesus as understood and taught by Rev. John Wesley. He taught that God’s love for all humanity was, and is, grounded in the gift of grace and that God’s love toward us is unconditional, made possible through the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As recipients of such love, we are to live our lives in a manner that bears witness to our love for God and for our neighbor. As Methodists we believe in actualizing our faith in our community — actions speak louder than words. As we read in the Apostle Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians 2:8-9…
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God — not the result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Our History
Our church is rooted deeply in the community of Union City, dating back to the spring of 1856, when the Methodist Episcopal Church, South was organized. Since its early beginnings, the Methodists of Union City have sought to grow in their love for God and in Christian service to their neighbors.
